BEACH WEDDING - PHOTOGRAPHY

Beach Wedding Photography - Photojournalistic #1

One thing I learned for sure in planning our wedding in 2009, is that wedding photography had evolved over the years. Originally, my plan was to save on the area of photography as part of the overall budget.  I had convinced myself that just having a photographer for a short period of time to take the basic photos was all we needed.  I changed my mind when I started an online search for potential photographers.  Initially, I found plenty of photographers online who had gallery after gallery of traditional formal wedding photos.  (overall, a big snoozer.)   Fortunately, I came across a photography studio referenced on a wedding website and the photos were amazing!

I learned about a style of photography called 'photojournalistic'.  Simply put, it's about telling the story of your wedding day.  The significance of this style to me is the capturing of details and special moments rather than your 'typical' posed wedding formals and other shots. When reviewing the possibilities, it was clear (to me) this was a better approach. I also liked in this case, multiple photographers are used to capture all the right moments and angles.

Despite the fact that I was scared to inquire about prices - I did it anyways.  As expected - some of their packages cost almost as much as my entire wedding budget!  I thanked them for the information and explained that I was intrigued by their style of photography but unfortunately they were outside of our budget.  They responded with information on their sister company who might provide something that was more in my price range.  Fortunately, with a slight increase in our original photography budget, that was the case!

I would reccomend to anyone planning a wedding to look into photographers who adhere to this type of style; nowadays perhaps many of them do.  Take a look at their sample galleries and they will definately stand out against the old school traditional style.  Just do searches for "photojournalistic wedding"

Wedding Tip: Consider the option of purchasing the rights to the digital photography - much more common today than years ago.  That is how I am able to print my own pictures, create my own albums, Christmas Cards, and post photos here on my blog.

Sebrie Images of Fort Myers, FL was responsible for the photography at our wedding.

BEACH WEDDING - GUEST BOOK

Beac Wedding Photo Guestbook
Book by local photograher

Beach Weddng Photo Guestbook

There are a lot of creative guest book ideas out there, and I love it when people go with something unique.  You can have objects signed by all your guests, a large matt for a frame in which you can place a wedding photo, rocks, puzzle pieces, and the list goes on...  For our wedding, I had seen an idea where you create a photo book and have guests sign pages of the book (I’m a shutterfly girl myself).  My initial idea was to create a book from the pictures taken of the area on the wedding planning trip.  However, I ended up going for an easier option – I found a book from a bookstore by a local photographer.  Now it makes a great coffee table book that we keep out in our home.  Much better than a traditional guest book stored in a box somewhere!

Wedding Tip - Be Creative. Be Unique. Be Clever.  Make it fun.  Make it memorable.  The use of the book above as a guest book isn't all that crazy or unique, but it's just a little different take on an age old tradition.  There are tons of great ideas out there.  Be inspired!!!

BEACH WEDDING - CHOCOLATE CAKE

Beach Wedding Chocolate Cake from Publix

We defied tradition and had a chocolate wedding cake.  Yes, I know we would have had a groom’s cake but what for?  We both love chocolate and our guests thought it was great!  The cake came from Publix and was wonderful and reasonably priced. (Yes - I said 'Publix'.  If you’ve never had a cake from Publix – you should try them – they have a reputation for being delicious!).  You can find this particular cake under the groom’s cake section of the Publix Bakery Website:
http://www.publix.com/food/catalog/ProductDetail.do?id=149

Beach Wedding Chocolate Cake from PublixThe best part was that this was a total surprise for my husband.  A decoy picture of a white cake with daisies was kept in my wedding binder to throw him off.   My favorite photo of my husband from our wedding day is smile on his face that was captured as he discovered his surprise!
After the cake arrived at the hotel on the day of the wedding, the event coordinator found me on the beach to tell me about the response of the staff to the big chocolate cake in the cooler.  Many were aghast that this was a wedding cake and expressed their disbelief – “this can’t be a wedding cake”.

Wedding Tip - Today it appears that more and more couples are going with unique and fun wedding cake choices and going beyond the typical white to different kinds of cakes, to cupcakes, and beyond cakes altogether. I think it is a wonderful way to be creative and go with something that reflects your personalities.  It's the unique things that will make the day memorable and fun for you and your guests.  At one point I hesitated at on the chocolate wedding cake idea - "Can we really have a chocolate wedding cake?"  The answer to that question is "Of course you can!"  I'm so glad I followed through!
