We defied tradition and had a chocolate wedding cake. Yes, I know we would have had a groom’s cake
but what for? We both love chocolate and
our guests thought it was great! The
cake came from Publix and was wonderful and reasonably priced. (Yes - I said 'Publix'. If you’ve never
had a cake from Publix – you should try them – they have a reputation for being
delicious!). You can find this particular
cake under the groom’s cake section of the Publix Bakery Website:

The best part was that this was a total surprise for my
husband. A decoy picture of a white cake
with daisies was kept in my wedding binder to throw him off. My favorite photo of my husband from our
wedding day is smile on his face that was captured as he discovered his
surprise!
After the cake arrived at the hotel on the day of the
wedding, the event coordinator found me on the beach to tell me about
the response of the staff to the big chocolate cake in the cooler. Many were aghast that this was a wedding cake
and expressed their disbelief – “this can’t
be a wedding cake”.
Wedding Tip - Today it appears that more and more couples are going with unique and fun wedding cake choices and going beyond the typical white to different kinds of cakes, to cupcakes, and beyond cakes altogether. I think it is a wonderful way to be creative and go with something that reflects your personalities. It's the unique things that will make the day memorable and fun for you and your guests. At one point I hesitated at on the chocolate wedding cake idea - "Can we really have a chocolate wedding cake?" The answer to that question is "Of course you can!" I'm so glad I followed through!
